Title: Zombified
Artist: Martha Gonzalez
Artist Inspiration: Arnold Böcklin Medium: Charcoal, Graphite on Paper Size: 30.5 cm x 45 cm Year: 2015 Exhibition- Doing a collaboration with my peer Andrew Johnson was much easier than I had originally thought. Though I excel in the anatomy of the human body, the muscles were not easy for me. Mainly, I work with bones, so drawing in the muscles was a challenge. |
Title: Boney Handed
Artist: Martha Gonzalez
Artist Inspiration: Michael Thomas Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Size: 91.44 cm x 30.48 cm Year: 2015 Exhibition- Beginning to feel more comfortable with anatomy, I wanted to test myself by painting the bones of my very own arms and hands. It was not easy. Working mainly with ribs and skulls, the hands and joints of the arms was a learning experience. |
Title: Starry Night over Holy Hill
Artist: Martha Gonzalez
Artist Inspiration: Vincent Van Gogh Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Size: 30.48 cm x 30.48 cm Year: 2015 Exhibition- Wanting to broaden my horizons, I tried to paint in impressionistic style. Though I failed miserably, I'd say; "At least I tried." I paint in mainly smoother strokes, so painting impressionistic and trying to imitate Van Gogh was a learning experience. |
Title: Royals to a Rock
Artist: Martha Gonzalez
Artist Inspiration: John Banovich Medium: Photography Year: 2015 Exhibition- I wanted to show an animal, a predator mainly, in its natural habitat. Waiting for something to happen, I sat at the Milwaukee Public Zoo for 3 hours, only to photograph the lion sleeping. Then it hit me, this is his natural habitat. Picturing him curled up like a kitten was enough to satisfy me. |
Title: Innocence Lost
Artist: Martha Gonzalez
Artist Inspiration: Adara Sanchez Medium: Digital Manipulation Year: 2015 Exhibition- Having limited knowledge of history, I took the time to look into learning what I could about the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan in 1945. Wanting the idea of a child being lost was my main point, for a child to have been there, and not. What better way to plan something as an idea than a drawing? |
